The 31-year-old Liverpool talisman has been out since March having undergone surgery on his groin.
And his much anticipated return to full fitness has been delayed by a further month after the injury was infected.
Critics
Critics have started to question how instrumental the England international will fare in the coming campaign as his injuries now appear more frequent.
Yet, Carragher, who has won a constellation of medals alongside his Liverpool-born team-mate, is in no doubt he will return to his majestic best.
"There's still plenty more to come from Steven Gerrard," Carragher told the Liverpool Echo.
Best
"He's one of the best, if not the best, player to play in the Premier League over the past decade.
"When Stevie is back playing it will be like we've just signed a great new player.
"He's still got four or five years ahead of him to play for Liverpool."
