Skrtel relief at comeback

The 26-year-old had appeared in every minute of Liverpool's 2010/11 Premier League campaign, but a calf injury suffered during the summer wrecked his pre-season.

The Slovakia defender was forced to sit out Liverpool's opening two league games of the season but played the full 90 minutes of the match at St James' Park, which Liverpool won 3-1 to progress through to the Carling Cup third round.

Skrtel was understandably delighted with his side's win against the League One outfit but on a personal level was just relieved to finally make it back onto the field.

"I really missed this," Skrtel wrote on his personal website.

"I am glad that we managed to secure our way through to the next round and personally, I am happy that the calf did not cause me any trouble whatsoever and that I could play the full 90 minutes.

"Hopefully it will stay like this."
