Milan an option for Aquilani

The Liverpool midfielder has been continually linked with a move back to his homeland during the summer.

Aquilani was loaned to Juventus last year where he excelled but they have deemed Liverpool's asking price for the Italy international too high.

Just last month Liverpool's principal owner John W Henry gushed with praise on Twitter about the £20million midfielder as he played an instrumental role in their 6-3 win over a Malaysian XI in Kuala Lumpur.

"He's a major player, who was in the Italian national team even before his injury. We will have to see if he remains at Liverpool or whether there will be a suitor from Italy."

The former Roma player has been impressive during pre-season and despite the incessant speculation over his future, has performed with distinction over that period.

Transfer

Franco Zavaglia, Aquilani's agent, believes a transfer to Milan could provide the ideal solution for all concerned but insists it would not be a problem if he had to stay at Liverpool.

"Alberto has played almost every pre-season friendly with Liverpool," he told Radio Sportiva.

"He's a major player, who was in the Italian national team even before his injury. We will have to see if he remains at Liverpool or whether there will be a suitor from Italy.

"He has three more years left on his contract and if he has to remain at Liverpool that will not be a problem."

Fiorentina had entered the race for his signature earlier this summer but they wanted him on a loan, rather than paying the reported £9million it would take to snare him on a full-time basis.

Juventus

And after playing for Juventus last year on a similar arrangement, the 27-year-old favours a more permanent solution to his future.

"The problem with the deal with Fiorentina was that it was a loan deal, we are looking for a permanent solution and one that will make everyone happy," added Zavaglia.

"If Fiorentina had signed Aquilani, they would have been able to build their team around him. Juventus have considered the asking price too high, so we have not been able to do a deal there.

"As for AC Milan, that could be an idea."
